1. The 19th-century Millerite movement, led by William Miller, was a global announcement of Christ’s imminent return, grounded in careful study of the prophecies of Daniel. After thirteen years of Bible study, Miller concluded that Jesus would return around 1843-1844, a message that electrified North America and spread worldwide, igniting spiritual revival and hope among diverse Christian groups.
2. William Miller’s journey from deism to biblical faith shows how God calls and transforms individuals to proclaim His truth, even when they initially hesitate. Miller’s humble background reminds us that God can use anyone who is willing to study and share His Word faithfully.
3. The 2,300-day prophecy in Daniel 8:13-14, linked to the 490-year prophecy in Daniel 9, provided the chronological foundation for this message. Though Jesus did not physically return in 1844, the resulting “Great Disappointment” led to deeper understanding about the heavenly sanctuary, refining Adventist doctrine and calling believers to ongoing readiness.
4. As with the first coming, Satan countered this worldwide announcement with powerful distractions and counterfeit ideologies. The rise of Darwin’s theory of evolution, Freudian psychology, Marxist ideology, and new religious movements all emerged simultaneously, diverting attention from the message of Christ’s return and sowing confusion and despair.

4. Despite preparations like bunkers and underground cities by the world’s wealthy and powerful, no one will be able to hide from the coming of the Lord. The final judgment and the triumph of God’s kingdom will be universally evident, leaving no room for denial or escape.
5. This truth brings both comfort and urgency to believers. It assures us that Jesus is coming for His own and encourages us to live holy, hopeful lives as we await His glorious appearing. The certainty of His return is the foundation of our faith and mission.
