Digital Dungeons: The Global Push for Control and Our Call to Faithfulness
Reflections on a timely message about digital IDs, faith, and preparing for the future
It’s always a blessing to return to the beautiful Northland, but what makes these gatherings truly meaningful is the chance to connect with like-minded brothers and sisters. The last five years have been a spiritual wake-up call for many of us—a modern-day trumpet blast reminding us that judgment is coming and we must be right with our Heavenly Father.
In that spirit, I want to share with you some urgent developments happening right before our eyes—developments that directly relate to Bible prophecy and our preparedness as God’s people.
The UN Connection: From Human Rights to Digital Control
In 1948, the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights—a document that begins by acknowledging “inalienable rights” but then shifts to talking about “human rights.” This distinction is crucial.
Inalienable rights come from God—they’re part of our birthright as beings created in His image. They cannot be taken away by any government.
Human rights, however, are granted by governments and can be taken away. The UN declaration makes this clear in Article 29, stating that all rights are subject to “the general welfare in a democratic society” and must not conflict with “the purposes and principles of the United Nations.”
This framework sets the stage for what we’re seeing today: a global push toward digital identification systems that could ultimately determine who can participate in society.
The Digital ID Agenda: Already Here
Countries around the world are rapidly implementing digital ID systems:
-
The United Kingdom recently announced compulsory digital IDs for all citizens by 2029
-
India has registered 90% of its 1.4 billion citizens with a 12-digit ID number linked to biometric data
-
Thailand has linked all SIM cards to digital IDs, eliminating anonymous communication
-
Nigeria has introduced both digital currency and digital ID amid significant public pushback
-
The United States has been implementing Real ID standards that are now being digitized in many states
These systems are often marketed as tools for “financial inclusion” or “security,” but their potential for control is alarming. As Microsoft noted in internal discussions about digital ID systems, participants who don’t comply “would be unable to buy or sell goods or services.”
Convenience vs. Control
We face a dilemma: we love convenience, but with convenience comes control. Our smartphones have become 24/7 surveillance devices that track our location, purchases, health data, social connections, and even our political and religious views.
Digital IDs could allow governments to:
-
Control access to food, healthcare, and transportation based on compliance
-
Implement social credit systems like China’s, where behavior determines privileges
-
Remotely disable assets or freeze accounts
-
Enforce conformity through the threat of becoming a “non-person” in society
The Spiritual Dimension: Preparing Like the Hebrew Boys
This isn’t merely a political or technological issue—it’s spiritual. We’re watching a modern “golden statue” being constructed before our eyes, just as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego watched Nebuchadnezzar’s statue being built.
Those three young men decided in advance how they would respond to the coming test. When the music played and everyone was commanded to bow, they stood firm, declaring: “Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us… But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods.”
They were ready to become “non-persons”—rejected, humiliated, and facing execution—rather than disobey God.
Our Response: Choosing Eternity Over Today
As we see these digital systems developing, we must ask ourselves: What matters most? What are we willing to lose for the sake of eternity?
The time is coming when God’s faithful people may find themselves:
-
Excluded from financial systems
-
Unable to buy or sell
-
Evicted from homes (when property taxes can’t be paid without compliance)
-
Cut off from utilities and services
-
Treated as statues on the street—visible but ignored by society
Yet in that moment of greatest exclusion, Jesus promises: “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).
The Good News in the Fire
The beautiful truth from Daniel 3 is that the Hebrew boys were never closer to Jesus than when they were in the fiery furnace. God didn’t prevent the test, but He met them in it.
Our calling isn’t to preserve the institutions of the past but to prepare people for the future—to be ready when Jesus comes and to stand firm through the coming time of trouble.
The digital mechanisms that could enable the “mark of the beast” system are being constructed now. But like Daniel’s friends, we have time to decide—today—where our ultimate allegiance lies.
Don’t bow to men; bow to God. Don’t stand for error; stand for truth. Don’t settle for temporary comforts when eternity is at stake.
Choose today. Choose eternity.
