The Power of Music and Memory: Preparing for the End Times

As I often find myself standing on the sidelines or sitting on a platform, enveloped in the sacred music, I can’t help but wish it could go on forever. Pastor Kelly rightly noted that music reaches parts of the soul that mere words cannot. It’s a universal language that transcends cultures—Hollywood might dub a movie for Japan, but the music remains unchanged.

The Blessing of Music

Listening to music blesses my soul, providing comfort, encouragement, and sometimes even a gentle rebuke. It’s a privilege to share the stage with my colleagues, Pastor Ron Kelly and Brother Melenko, with whom I shared unforgettable experiences during a camp meeting in Arizona. The heat by day and cool by night were just part of the adventure, but it was a blessed experience nonetheless.

A Call to Prepare

Tonight, I’ll be presenting a three-part series titled “Lost Zombies.” This series, inspired by Pastor Hansen’s urging to focus on end-time living, aims to prepare us for the coming crisis. Initially, I struggled to find the right topics, praying for guidance. Ultimately, the Lord directed my thoughts, leading to tonight’s foundation on memory and its implications for our spiritual lives.

Memory: The Foundation of Our Identity

In tonight’s discussion, we’ll explore how memories are formed and how stress can negatively affect our autobiographical memory—our sense of self and faith in God. Our memories shape our identity, influencing our recognition of God’s work in our lives.

The Mechanics of Memory

  1. Memory 101: Understanding how memory works is essential.
  2. Positive Hippocampal Neurogenesis: How new neurons contribute to healthy memory formation.
  3. Negative Hippocampal Neurogenesis: The impact of stress on our ability to remember.

The Battle for Your Mind

The battle for salvation occurs in the mind. We must develop healthy thinking patterns to discern the voice of the Holy Spirit amid the chaos of the world.

Understanding Indoctrination

Indoctrination, as defined, is a systematic way to implant ideological narratives into people’s minds, promoting unthinking conformity. It’s a tactic often employed to control thought processes.

The Role of Fear

Fear is a powerful tool used in propaganda and indoctrination. It can overwhelm our cognitive processes, leading us to comply without question. The Bible warns us not to conform to the patterns of this world but to be transformed by renewing our minds (Romans 12:2).

The Importance of Healthy Living

Living in alignment with the Adventist health message—nutrition, exercise, and social connection—can bolster our mental resilience and promote positive neurogenesis. This is especially crucial as we approach the final crisis.

Practical Steps for Improvement

  1. Sleep: Aim for 7-8 hours of restorative sleep.
  2. Nutrition: Focus on a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals.
  3. Exercise: Engage in regular aerobic activity to enhance brain function.
  4. Social Connections: Foster relationships that nurture your mental health.
  5. Purpose: Find meaning in your life to motivate positive experiences.

Conclusion: Preparing for the Future

As we embark on this journey over the next few sessions, I invite you to contemplate your lifestyle choices. We can choose to embrace the Adventist health message not only for our physical well-being but also for our spiritual readiness.

May we commit to living in a way that reflects our faith, allowing us to discern and respond to the Holy Spirit’s guidance in these tumultuous times.

Let’s bow our heads in prayer as we seek God’s blessing on our journey ahead.
