When you look at the world, from the brightest smile to the darkest struggle, there’s a story behind it. Every home, every heart, carries battles that are unseen, yet very real.

Today’s Truth:
The Bible reveals that before our world’s pain began, there was a war in heaven. Lucifer, once a magnificent angel full of wisdom and beauty, allowed pride to corrupt his heart. He desired to be like God, to ascend above the throne of heaven. This rebellion led to a battle where Michael—another name for Christ—and His angels fought against Lucifer and his followers. The war was not a physical fight with swords, but a war of truth and loyalty. It was about whether God’s government and character could be trusted.

Satan lost and was cast out of heaven, along with his angels, to the earth. This expulsion brought evil into our world and opened the door to human suffering. The enemy now prowls like a roaring lion, seeking to destroy and devour everything God has created. Yet, God restrains him, holding him accountable until the final judgment. Understanding this spiritual conflict helps us see that suffering is not random—it has a source, and there is a battle being fought for every soul.

This question planted a seed of suspicion in Eve’s heart. The serpent then directly contradicted God’s words, saying, “You will not die,” even though God had warned death would come.

Eve believed the lie, and Adam followed, choosing to place themselves on the throne of their hearts rather than God. This choice brought sin, suffering, and death into the world. The fall was not just about disobedience but about rejecting God’s authority and embracing self-rule. Yet, even in this tragic moment, God promised a Redeemer who would one day crush the serpent’s head—a promise of hope and restoration.

The Bible describes Satan as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. This is a sobering reality—evil is not distant or inactive but active and personal.

The suffering we see—broken families, addiction, illness, despair—is evidence of this ongoing battle. Many people try to medicate their pain with alcohol, drugs, distractions, or unhealthy habits because the root cause of their suffering remains unaddressed.

Yet, the good news is that Jesus came to set captives free. He confronted Satan in the wilderness and triumphed. Throughout His ministry, He cast out demons and healed the oppressed. His victory is available to us today. Jesus never lost a battle with Satan and promises to fight for us. We do not face this roaring lion alone.

The great controversy between Christ and Satan continues, but the outcome is already decided. At Calvary, Jesus secured judgment against Satan, paid the penalty for our sins, and revealed God’s true character of love and justice. The cross, once a symbol of death and torture, has become a symbol of victory and hope—the empty cross reminds us that Jesus rose and lives forevermore.

Christ’s victory means that every battle we face can be overcome through Him. He promises never to leave us nor forsake us, and anyone who comes to Him will never be turned away. This assurance is not based on our perfection but on Christ’s perfect obedience and sacrifice. We are invited to choose sides in this great controversy—to stand with Jesus, to trust Him to fight the battles we cannot see, and to look forward to a future free from evil and suffering.

Like Polycarp, who faithfully served Christ even unto death, we can stand firm knowing that our King never fails and never forsakes His own. This is our hope and our joy.
